Q1. Could you tell us about your background and what drew you to the field of immigration law? What motivated you to join HBM Law?

I chose immigration law because it allows me to make a direct impact on individuals and families, guiding them through complex legal processes that profoundly affect their lives in the United States. Q3. From your experience, what are some of the main challenges that clients face when dealing with United States immigration requirements? How do you help them overcome these obstacles?

Navigating the challenges of the United States immigration system can put clients in complex situations with all the disparate information out there. Let me give some examples of how I solved these efficiently and quickly. One client I assisted recently faced significant delays due to incomplete paperwork. I meticulously reviewed their documentation, ensuring forms were accurately filled out and supporting evidence was well-organized, which helped mitigate the risks and expedite their case processing. I provided thorough research on the new policy to help Attorney Himani advise the client on the effects of the new law on their eligibility.

Cultural and language barriers can further complicate matters. I bridge these gaps by offering clear explanations in clients’ preferred languages and culturally sensitive guidance, ensuring they understand their rights and options throughout the process. I speak fluent English and Hindi but speaking in our natural language immediately puts these clients at ease bringing more stability and connection to the case. In more challenging cases, such as enforcement actions or complex family-based immigration issues, I collaborate closely with the team to develop strong defences and advocate effectively for favourable outcomes.

Q4. What sort of services does HBM Law provide to both individuals and families?

HBM Law offers a comprehensive range of immigration services tailored to meet the diverse needs of individuals and families. Specializing in family-based immigration, we assist spouses and eligible family members in obtaining spousal (K-1) and fiancé visas,​​ marriage-based green cards, and reuniting with loved ones through sponsorship and immigration petitions. We also guide eligible individuals through the adjustment of status process to become lawful permanent residents (green card holders) without leaving the United States as well as those looking to become a resident without conditions (I-751 waiver).

Additionally, HBM Law supports clients in achieving United States citizenship through naturalization and  expeditious naturalization for U.S. Department Spouses and Missionaries including preparation for the citizenship test and interview. We provide assistance with cases filed under the Violence Against Women’s Act (VAWA) applications, help secure employment authorization documents (EADs), and navigate consular processing for immigrant visa applications with Embassies/Consulates abroad. Furthermore, if you have a criminal background, we can help assess if the inadmissibility ground can be waived through a filing of an I-601, Application for Waiver of Grounds of Inadmissibility. If you entered the United States without a visa or overstayed and hope to stay with family in the United States, we offer provisional waivers (i-601a). The decisions you make today about your United States immigration status have lasting implications. For instance, if your goal is permanent residency through a familial relationship, only specific visa types can lead you there such as the IR-1, CR-1 visa categories, IR-2 visa category, IR-5 visa category, and family preference categories. Not every visa, such as B visas, student visas, and temporary protected status will work. It’s crucial to understand these distinctions to avoid delays or setbacks in your residency aspirations.

Moreover, long-term planning enhances stability in the United States whether building lasting relationships, deepening family commitments, or simply enjoying life in the United States. Planning ahead protects you against unforeseen changes.

Circumstances like family status or job situations can shift unexpectedly, affecting visa status. Having a solid plan ensures you’re prepared for any eventuality and can navigate challenges with confidence. Lastly, a long-term immigration strategy provides peace of mind. Planning ahead may not be the most exciting task, but it’s essential for securing your future in the United States. By proactively addressing immigration and visa considerations, you can mitigate uncertainties and focus on building a fulfilling life and family in the United States.

“Stay informed and proactive. Immigration laws and policies can change, and your situation may evolve over time. Stay engaged with your legal team, keep your documentation up-to-date, and seek advice promptly when facing changes or challenges. Being proactive can significantly impact the success of your immigration journey.”
