Meet Himani Bhardwaj
Principal Attorney, a first-generation immigrant like you
Attorney Himani Bhardwaj founded HBM Law Offices in 2012 in Chicago, IL and moved the firm to West Des Moines, IA in 2013 to serve the growing community of fellow immigrants in her home state of Iowa. Serving as the Principal Attorney, she has devoted herself entirely to immigration cases for over a decade, specializing in complex issues, successfully representing hundreds of cases, working with over 60+ U.S. Embassies/Consulates, and reuniting families across borders.
Himani is a first-generation immigrant who is deeply multicultural. She was born in Punjab, India and grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Bangkok, Thailand before moving to Chicago, IL for college. Currently she is based in Singapore with her family and meets all clients and prospective clients virtually while the firm’s team runs day-to-day operations at the West Des Moines office.
Himani became a naturalized citizen in 2010, the same year she graduated from DePaul College of Law where she specialized in International Human Rights. In law school, Himani was selected as a Jeanne Sullivan fellow for the International Human Rights Law Institute (IHRLI) and represented the law school in international moot court competitions. Himani attended the University of Chicago for college with a focus on International Studies.
Prior to starting HBM Law Offices, Himani oversaw and contributed to significant government projects and advocacy work. From her work at the Center of Human Rights and Advice for Indigenous People in Oaxaca, Mexico to her directorial role in Suleymaniyah, Iraq, where she managed projects and budgets for U.S. government-funded grants focusing on democracy and female education, Himani’s impact has been profound.
As a result, Himani brings 12+ years of experience in immigration law, a human rights background, and compassion from her personal immigration journey to represent aspiring immigrants from across all 50 states of the United States and around the world.
Himani exclusively practices U.S. immigration and nationality law, which is federal law, authorizing her to represent clients across the United States before the United States Customs and Border Patrol, the Department of State, and globally. She is licensed in Illinois by the Illinois Supreme Court and has special authorization to practice only U.S. immigration and nationality law in Iowa by the Iowa Supreme Court. She is a member of the national American Immigration Lawyer Association (AILA), the AILA Iowa-Nebraska Chapter, and the AILA Asia Pacific Chapter.

Lead Immigration Paralegal
Akika is an experienced immigration paralegal for HBM Law. She is responsible for providing immigration services particularly in the areas of Family-Based Green Cards, the Violence Against Women Act, Naturalization, Removal of Conditions, Provisional Waivers, I-601, and I-212 waivers.
Skilled in legal research, drafting, and case preparation and management, Akika is dedicated to providing compassionate support to our clients.
Akika is fluent in English, Hindi, and Assamese, allowing her to effectively communicate with a diverse clientele. In her spare time, Akika enjoys reading and painting.
She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and is currently pursuing a diploma in International Business Law, as well as studies in U.S. Technology Law and Paralegal Studies.

Vishal Tomer is an experienced immigration paralegal with 7 years of expertise in family immigration law. Professional, Competent and Empathic – Highest Recommendation!
Himani and her staff, especially Chey, are fantastic to work with! Do I have enough space here to say all I want to say?! Extremely professional. Very fair fees. Sincere empathy for our situation which we (my wife and I) deeply appreciated. Fast responses to all our (many, many, many) questions and emails! All information about our case was explained fully and everything went totally smoothly and quickly – not something you normally expect when working with the federal government! We are so glad we hired Himani to help us with our immigration, after speaking to a couple immigration lawyers, we chose her as she was the best. Himani is very knowledgeable, patient and kind. She is extremely professional yet approachable. I guess being an immigrant herself she understands our immigration matters best. Himani and Chey are always available to help us. I can not say enough good things about HBM Law Offices! My husband and I hired Himani to help with his family based Visa. Himani and her paralegal Chey were awesome. We have been working with them for the last 3 years and am so thrilled to say he has successfully received his green card! They had no problems getting him his unlawful presence waiver for my husband, who is from Mexico. I’m so glad we decided to go with HBM instead of one of the more well know attorneys in our area. Himani truly cares for her clients, they aren’t treated like another number (or paycheck). She gives you a set price and breaks it up along the duration of the process. Its so convienent not having to go into the office every time something is needed (not to mention being charged for the visit). There are no surprises, she tells you exactly what to expect, good and bad, a general time span in which to expect it as well. If you are trying to obtain some kind of papers from Mexico don’t waste your time on one of the overworked attorneys around, chose HBM instead! You won’t regret it!

Where do I start , with how amazing job Himani and Chey did for my wife and step boys casé on AOS since day one they helped us understand so much and what we needed for our case , and if we still didn’t get it they didn’t hesitate to find other ways for us to understand the things we needed to make our case stronger .
It wasn’t a easy time for us since we had to deal a lot with covid-19 but they figured out ways to get everything done in a good timely manner , they were always on top of everything even when I wasn’t since I was so busy working 16 hour shifts most of the time to take care of my family .
Thanks to Himani and chey my wife and kids now are lawful permanent residents of the United States of America, now my wife will be able to get driver’s license to be able to drive legally in America and help me with the kids more , she will now be able to work to provide for our big family. Himani and Chey are the best at helping people in immigration cases , i would not think twice in hiring her again .
